Henderson Team

The MUMC Henderson Team does mission work local to Zion, IL and at Henderson Settlement. Henderson Settlement is located in Frakes, Kentucky, in the Appalachia mountains. Frakes and the surrounding communities are in some of the most impoverished counties in the US.

The Henderson Team mission work includes light carpentry and painting. They provide home repairs and improvements for people that would not be able afford the work themselves. The team raises the funds to pay for the paint and construction material, purchases the material, and volunteers their time for the labor.

Last year, the team worked on several projects, all at the same property. Projects included replacing a water heater (the family had gone all winter and spring with no hot water), some windows, and the kitchen sink. The team also built a shed for the family; they will use it as a garage for their four-wheeler, their main form of transporation. Lastly, the team purchased the family a used stove to replace the one they had. The existing stove was barely working.

The team's fund raisers include:

• A Thanksgiving pie sale
  Pies include Apple, Pumpkin, and Pecan - Order by November 16; pick up the week of Thanksgiving
• Chili Potato—A winter warm up! January 11, 2009
• Prime Rib Dinner—Dinner with your Valentine! February 14, 2009
• Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner—Happy St. Patricks Day! March 14, 2009
• Rummage Sale—Trade your Rummage for Ours! May 1 - 2, 2009

All dinner's, and the rummage sale, are at the church Fellowship Hall, in the basement. The public is welcome. The food is great, and the prices are even better.
